Legoland California is located a half an hours drive away from San Diego and claims to be a family themed amusement park though most of the rides are actually meant for children. Upon entering Legoland visitors pass through the main entrance of the amusement park which is aptly named as “The Beginning.” At the entrance a gigantic Dinosaur known as Bronte great visitors, built using only bright red Lego bricks; Bronte is nine feet tall and measures 34 feet from nose to tail.  Also located at the entrance plaza is the Lego retail outlet which is an 8,000 square foot store that sells the latest Lego merchandise, buyers can also have their purchases shipped anywhere in the world.

One of the latest additions to the California Legoland theme park is the Land of Adventure section, kids will be transported back to the 1920’s when Egyptology was at the height of its popularity and Tutankhamen’s crypt was discovered. The area has four new attractions including the park’s first dark ride. You are expected to recover a lost treasure while riding in a desert safari jeep and blasting off targets with a laser gun. The whole ride goes through nine different scenes including a mummy’s tomb, a professor’s lab and a spider’s lair.

However the biggest draw of Legoland is Miniland USA, where miniature replica’s of American cities are constructed out of Lego bricks this section can be fun for both adults and children alike as the intricate construction and attention to detail is simply awe inspiring. This area is purely an exhibit and does not offer any rides apart from the Coast Cruise where the entire family can sail along lakeshore and take in the sights and sounds, also you can pilot your own mini boat in the Legoland Marina.

Several other themed sections can also be enjoyed each of which offers a different experience. Dino Island transports you back to the age of dinosaurs and the Coastersaurus roller coaster ride speeds up to 21 mph. Legoland California is only a short drive away from most San Diego hotels. A number of hotels in San Diego offer comfortable accommodation to their patrons and are located near major attractions in the city.
