Mario and Luigi, the plumber brothers are back for another adventure. It is not the side scrolling jumping on platforms and mushroom type adventure; it is an RPG type of adventure. They are back for another adventure RPG but this time they are in a new world to explore. They are still in the Mushroom Kingdom, but that is not where their adventure takes place.
This particular adventure takes place inside of Bowser. And you ask, What does that even mean? Inside of his body, he swallows you and that is where most of your adventure takes place. You also control Bowser on the over world. This is not your traditional boring RPG where you have a group of characters that all look the same, like Japanese girls and you have to spend hour after hour leveling up the characters and weapons in order to beat the next boss. They are sometimes boring and dull and hard to understand.
This game is a tad bit different; the writing is the main draw here. It is witty and funny and crazy all at the same time. The DS is becoming the place to play RPG games these days. The developers did a great job of making use of all the different features of the hand held device. The developers make good use of the touch screen and the microphone. The game is colorful and exciting and the writing is top notch. Mario and Luigi have starred in many games over the years, but this is the third in a series of RPG-light games.
The first was Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga and was released on the Gameboy Advance. A couple of years ago there was a release on the Nintendo DS; it was called Mario and Luigi Partners in Time. Both games were hits and were a blast to play. The writing was fun and quirky. The only gripe that I would have for any of these games is the repetitiveness of the combat.
It is a problem with any RPG; eventually the combat gets stale and repetitive unless there is some sort of twist and new things to learn as the game goes on. It is a small problem, but for no RPG players, it might be enough of a problem to keep them from making it through the game. Overall, this game is cool and is a must check out for any Mario and Luigi fan and any RPG fan.
